Rene Cigler

René Cigler is a Portland designer, X-toy designer and business owner of Strange Monster. René is also recognized worldwide for her edgy three dimensional found object sculptures and costumes for feature films and fashion runways.

Creating a juxtaposition of cute and slightly dark comes naturally when she is creating a character or sketch. Sketching dark but adorable creatures is one of René's favorite past times and she enjoys keeping them black and white mostly as she loves ink drawings as they are simple and the focus stays on her line work.

Sugar Hiccup character is sassy and sweet and of course the world revolves around her. She is all attitude and she gets what she wants or you'd better watch out! Sugar's curious nature can get her into trouble and she has little friends that tag along for the fun. She has a rebellious edge but softened by a sweet sugar coating.

René and her partner Cameron Smith run their silkscreen and apparel design house, Strange Monster, from north east Portland but their reach is much broader as their products and designs can be found worldwide in a plethora of stores & boutiques across Europe, UK, Australia, New Zealand as well as Asia.
