I split from the father of my children when they were littles. It wasn't a very amiable split and although it was tough, each Christmas and Father's Day I would have the kids put something together for their father. My daughter is now 18 so she's on her own but yesterday my 13 year old and I made peanut butter cookies for Sunday.
This is not returned on the other side nor do I expect it. The only reason I do this is because I want my children to know that I respect and love their relationship with their father regardless of how little I have in common with him. I value this teaching moment and am grateful to have the opportunity to share it with them every holiday.
The recipe we used kicks ass. These are Vegan Peanut Butter cookies with only the good kind of butter in them...peanut butter. We altered it a bit using 1/2 of light brown sugar and 1/2 cup of cane sugar. We also used half peanut butter and half a blend of almond butter with chia seeds. It was easy to make and the taste YUM.
Our friends at Redfin featured us in their Father's Day Blog post so check it out for fun ideas to do with good old or young dad.
Happy Father's Day!
